Bringing tears to your eyes

I know we keep saying it but the season of plenty is now in full swing and the 'horn of plenty' or cornucopia mode has been fully engaged. A walk over to the allotment field for an update on the onions revealed that the crop is going well and we can start lifting them and making full use of the onions in the kitchen.
There are red onions, white onions and shallots all growing happily and now we will keep lifting the crop for super fresh onions until the weather demands that we move them all into storage. I do love the colour of the red onions, they are like precious stones when you first lift them and clean them.
However you must remember to keep the kitchen roll handy to mop the tears when you are cutting them up.
      Sniff.
